INDEPENDENCE DAY

I celebrated India’s 67th Independence Day by donating blood.

When we look back at those 67 years & try to understand what our country has achieved in those years, the results are very disturbing. The ‘growth’ or ‘development’, whatever they call it, is going totally in a wrong direction. While we celebrate the superiority of Indian computer engineers in the IT sector worldwide, an Indian poor remains in the same condition as that existed in pre-independence era. Only difference being, the proportion of this class is increased dramatically. What should not be done, is being done! Who should not be betrayed, is betrayed! Who should not be ignored, is ignored!

The difficult to understand behavior of Indian rulers is creating havoc. The other section, the ‘common man’ is a mute spectator. Sometimes I wonder, how peacefully the finance minister of India tries to fool the people by showing false dreams of change under the name ‘GDP’. This is a very misunderstood philosophy which very conveniently says that by increasing the ‘gross domestic product’ of the country, the living standards of the people can be improved. Whereas, most of the GDP i.e. the so called ‘product’ is in the form which can’t be ‘fed’ to starving population. It is exported (moreover, produced!) for the sake of money, that too for the luxury of the rich ones. It is rare to see anyone producing the ‘products’ those are actually required today. These products are very simple and the techniques to produce them are so simple that it need not even be studied in a big institution with a shining degree! These products are the basic requirements are life – ‘food, clothes and shelter’.

Is not what an ordinary working family can buy with their earning the criteria for the strength of economy? Or is it the growth percentage worked out from ivory towers? If the majority of those who are toiling to produce wealth are pushed down to a lower standard of living in order to create a rosy growth figure what good is it for the country? And think, what is the end point of the growth theory? The entire global economy is falsely revolving around the growth theory; Economic "growth" is measured based on "cheap labor" (of developing countries) not on efficiency of production of products and services. The fact is that poorer standards of living, unsafe working conditions and environmental damage are hidden in the "Cheap labor" philosophy.

In total disregard with this, what we are actually producing, (moreover, putting our intelligence into) are the luxurious items which will be competed among each other and while reaching to the customer, they will be ready to be labeled as ‘outdated’.

What we need to understand the most is that,
The need of the day is to FEED
& not to increase the GREED !!!

Jai hind & happy Independence day!
